Stronger crude prices pushed energy stocks (.SPNY) 1% higher, while industrials (.SPLRCI) and materials (.SPLRCM) led the decline in major S&P 500 sectors. Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 3.90-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and by a 2.69-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq. The S&P index recorded 11 new 52-week highs and 14 new lows, while the Nasdaq recorded 20 new highs and 149 new lows.
